Short Biography:

Professor Colston is an interdisciplinary research leader with 30 years’ research experience at UK/USA academic institutions. Her expertise crosses the boundaries of chemistry, materials science and cultural heritage, and focuses on the underlying chemical and physico-chemical processes that affect the degradation and sustainability of heritage assets (both moveable and immoveable) in a changing environment. Key areas of research fall into three categories: understanding decay mechanisms; designing new conservation materials; and developing new methodologies for professional practice.

As a leader in the field of heritage science, Belinda combines skills in analytical chemistry with an understanding of historic materials to enhance conservation practices for both museum collections and the built environment
