Overview
Ultra-high performance liquid chromatography, also sometimes called ultra-high pressure liquid chromatography is a form of separation science based on column chromatography that is characterised by liquid flowing under pressures of up to 15,000 psi. This pressure results from the small diameter of the chromatography beads in the column and allows either high resolution separations of extremely complex mixtures or very rapid separation of medium to low complexity samples. Compounds eluting from a UPLC column are typically detected by UV absorbance or are passed into a mass spectrometer for detection.
